Check out this outrageous, and outrageously beautiful, ceiling installed by artist Jon Fabre at the Royal Palace in Brussels. It is a mosaic of sorts, made from the shells of 1.3 million jewel beetles. They are actually a food source in Thailand, so the artist set up a cottage industry to collect enough for the work: shells that would've been discarded are upcycled.
Here's our pretty little friend. Dinner?
Just another reason why I love the design aesthetic of Belgium. One of my other favorite art installations is also there, click through here: Sound of Silence.
