Here Comes the Sun...

How could anyone have a dreary day wearing this 1960's wool boucle coat by Bonnie Cashin?  (Bonnie introduced the first women's wear line for Coach in 1962, etc., et al.)  Ladies, any takers?

It is the East, and Juliet is the Sun...

Bosa has produced this set of stacking plates for two, calling them "Giulietta e Romeo".  A sophisticated and modern take on romance, they come in gold, silver or copper finishes.  Stunning!  Who needed cabinets anyway?

And Not a Drop to Drink...

These Venini glass bottles make my cells vibrate and me want to redo my home just for them...

Yes, please!

Aren't these hand blown glass "Whorls" by artist Mia Pearlman stunning?  Each is about 10"D x 7"H. These are shown wall mounted, which is how we plan on using them for a client; also they could be set on a table, individually or grouped.  The brilliant curators over at Morgan Lehman Gallery showed us these.  I've known Mia's works in paper, dealing with light and space:  how beautiful she's now working with glass, creating these little moments of frozen time...

God grant me the serenity...

I designed this room on W. 16th St. in Manhattan for a busy family with 2 small children.  The adults needed a place of their own, of course!  I used this opportunity to show off the photos they take during their travels, and because there were no closets (imagine!) I designed a his and hers wall system to maximize storage and space.  Because of the beautiful multi-paned door, there wasn't room to hang clothes like you would in a normal closet, so these cane doors slide back to reveal clothes that hang facing you like in a department store.  Chic!  The owners already had the gorgeous vintage desk and black marble sculpture.  It makes me want to light the fire and crawl in with someone special...

Two if by sea...

...Kharra LeDonne hand paints these wonderful spherical antique lockets, made of brass and copper, in Brooklyn.  Each is unique and less than 1/2" high.  Charming!

Shoot for the moon...

...Contrary to popular belief, you can find interesting architecture and great beauty in L.A.  Well, I believe it's everywhere, so why should L.A. be left out?!  Here is the Griffith Observatory through my eye.  When you're there, it feels like you're in a movie.  Some shots from my little Lumix...

An Image of Summer Nostalgia-Part 1.

The slight off-focus, the bright red boat with greens and blues and yellows--a perfect summer day...I love the romance of these photos and how warm they feel on these drizzly days...

But for the Grace of God...

Has anyone ever looked as elegant and stunning as Grace Jones in this photo-collage by Jean-Paul Goude?

A bouquet for all seasons...

I've been dying to make paper flowers for a wedding for years.  I offer every time someone tells me they're getting married: either a bouquet, or even the entire wedding with banks of paper flowers coming down staircases and as centerpieces for dining tables.  Not one person has taken me up on it!

Until now.  I finally got to make my paper flower bouquet.  (For good measure, I whipped up a matching boutonnierre so the groom didn't feel left out.)

Hope they liked them.  I put a lot of love into them!

The Sound of Silence...

Saint-Michael's Church in Leuven, Belgium has a beautiful Baroque facade, built in the 17th century, that never got it's dome.  The opening is simply covered over.  Gijs Von Vaerenbergh, an architectural/design team,  wanted to generate the missing dome in a unusual or transformative way.  Using simple chains of link, this is what they came up with:

An extraordinary expression of beauty and power, simultaneously earthly and ephemeral, silent and dynamic.

I cried the first time I saw it...

After holiday sale...

What?!  I can't tell you how much I want this Hermes Christmas Tree for sale on 1st Dibs...so chic, so unique.

Beauty.

How beautiful is Emma Watson with her sophisticated new look...

Hot Shots in Photography: David S. Allee

David's new works are being shown at Morgan Lehman Gallery in an exhibition called "Dark Day" and are breathtakingly beautiful.

He shoots these images with shutter speeds of up to 1/10,000th of a second, right into the brightest part of a reflection of the sun; the kind of bright reflection you couldn't look at with the naked eye and which would blow out a regular photograph with the light.  At this shutter speed (the train was moving at full speed on an elevated track!) the details within the reflection are captured, but there's no time to catch the less bright light around it and so stays dark.  Each is named for the time it was taken (the subway train is "4:02PM").  When viewing David's works keep in mind your eyes, the optics--how we perceive images and objects in light. The images below would not be able to be seen at the time each object was shot, but through the lens we are able to capture moments unseen.

Amazing and so beautiful.  Enjoy!
